Examples of Learning Outcomes at AWC
Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Learners will demonstrate the ability to communicate in both the spoken and written forms to convey information to customers; learners will demonstrate a basic understanding in the use of computers and the related programs for communications and information searches; students will complete the EPA 608 test.
Art-Studio Art Graduates will demonstrate analytical and technical skills. Graduates will develop conceptual skills, focusing on portfolio building.
Automotive Graduates will: perform entry-level diagnosis and repair of automobiles; demonstrate effective communication both written and orally; analyze automotive applications and quantify the needed materials and equipment to perform the task; use computer technology and the Internet to communicate and obtain information as it relates to their professional needs; and complete NATEF competencies P1, P2, P3 certification requirements.
English Course Cluster (1) Students who successfully complete the requirements of English 100 will demonstrate minimum preparedness for entry into English 101 by receiving a grade of C or higher. The following learning competencies are required: (a) accurate mechanics, including diction, grammar, spelling, and punctuation; (b) appropriate topic focus, audience awareness, and stated purpose; (c) effective use of diverse rhetorical modes and of organization techniques in paragraph and essay writing. (2) Upon satisfactory completion of English 101, the student will be able to: (a) read and analyze writings; (b) use rhetorical strategies for organizing and developing theses; (c) proofread and edit his/her essays; and (d) write clear and effective essays on topics related to readings. Nursing (AAS) Graduates will demonstrate: (1) knowledge in the profession of nursing; (2) critical thinking in Nursing 4 exit exam; (3) safe patient care; (4) the ability to safely calculate figures; (5) an ability to communicate both orally and in writing; (6) an ability to use technology; (7) knowledge in the role of the nursing assistant; (8) safe patient care; and (9) the student will meet state certification standards.
Radiologic Technology Students will: (1) be able to perform routine diagnostic studies of the upper and lower extremities without assistance; (2) be able to perform fluoroscopic gastrointestinal studies without assistance; (3) demonstrate the ability to use quantitative analysis to change technical factors for grid use; (4) be able to change technical factors to compensate for patient size or pathologic condition; (5) be able to explain procedures to patients using terms that they will understand; (6) be able to relay information about patient's medical history to the radiologists and other members of the health care team; (7) be able to perform exams using computerized radiography equipment; (8) pass the ARRT exam on the first attempt; (9) be employed 6 months after graduation; (10) complete the course work need to graduate from the Radiologic program; (11) graduate with adequate clinical and academic preparation for entry level in the field; (12) demonstrate teamwork in the performance of their daily clinical practice; and (13) gain an appreciation for professional involvement in the radiology field.
Spanish Graduates will be able to apply critical thinking skills to analyze and evaluate texts which have a clear, underlying internal structure; follow writing process (i.e. organizing, revising, proofreading) in Spanish and will demonstrate intermediate-high writing proficiency (per ACTFL standards); demonstrate comprehension and language production, including cultural fluency; successfully transition to a four year institution.
