What can you do with this certificate?
Following successful completion of the two first semesters of the nursing program, completing a summer practical nurse exit course, and passing a national standardized exam, you will be qualified to work as a licensed practical nurse (LPN).
What will you learn in this program?
This program will provide you with the knowledge to care for individuals needing health care or health care education under the supervision of a registered nurse. You will be able to practice nursing in a variety of settings including hospitals, long-term care facilities, clinics, and community agencies.
What classes can you look forward to in this program?
The program includes courses in English, math, science, human development, psychology, and nursing. As an exit option of the associate degree program, these courses are needed to meet the college's general education requirements and provide a foundation for a career in nursing. The Transition to Practical Nursing course focuses on the scope of practice and issues related to the practical nurse.
How long will it take you to complete this certificate?
You must complete the program prerequisites before you apply for acceptance into the nursing program. Once accepted into the nursing program, you can complete the practical nurse certificate in three semesters.
