What will I learn in this program?
In this program, you will learn to construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures made of wood. You will build frameworks, including partitions, joists, studding, and rafters. You will learn to install cabinets, siding, drywall, and batt or roll insulation.
Career Technical Education programs allow students to develop skills in career technical areas leading to employment or improved employment opportunities. CTE programs in addition to Carpentry incorporate a variety of skills such as air conditioning, plumbing, soldering, electrical trouble shooting and welding just to name a few.
Typical Classes:
Construction Materials and Equipment Safety
You will learn the principles of safety that relate to a construction project, with special emphasis on the safe operation of trade equipment.
Building Construction Methods 1
In this class, you will learn to build floor foundations and interior/exterior framing. This includes various types and methods of building foundations and framing systems.
Concrete and Concrete Forms
You will study the structural and architectural applications of concrete, including the examination of concrete chemistry, mix designs, placement and finishing methods, as well as forming systems.
Time to completion, taking classes full-time:
As part of the new Fast Track Certificate program in Construction Trades, this 18-credit certificate can be completed in less than six months enabling you to enter the workforce and begin earning a steady income quickly.
Career Options:
A degree or certificate in Carpentry prepares you for an entry position in the carpentry
industry.
