You will be introduced to the many facets of education including current issues, trends, and teaching strategies for the classroom. You will also have the opportunity to develop
expertise in your major content area.
Typical Classes:
Introduction to Education
You will be introduced to two types of learning experiences: observational and participatory. All activities are designed to help you decide if a career in education is right for you.
Introduction to Special Education
Introduces future teachers to the study of special needs students with emphasis on factors relating to current practices, identification, and characteristics of the exceptional child.
Major/Minor Emphasis Areas
In addition to the secondary education degree, which you will pursue at the university, you must also select a teaching major, such as Spanish or English, which you plan to teach in secondary school.
Time to completion, taking classes full-time:
Taking classes full-time, you can complete this 64-credit degree in four semesters.
Academic Options:
This degree will prepare you to transfer to the university. Eventually you will also need to take course work in the discipline you wish to teach in high school.
Career Options:
Once certified, the Secondary Education Degree will allow you to teach in 7th grade through 12th grade.
