Typical Classes:
Introduction to Education
Helps students broaden their understanding of teaching as
a profession by using two types of learning experiences: observational and participatory. All activities are designed with the ultimate aim of helping students decide if a career in education is appropriate.
Introduction to Special Education
Introduces future teaches to the study of special needs students with emphasis on factors relating to current practices, identification, and characteristics of the exceptional child.
Cultural Diversity in Education
This introductory course examines the relationship of cultural values to the formation of the child’s self-concept and learning styles. Also incorporated will be an examination of the roles of prejudice, stereotyping, and cultural incompatibilities in education.
Time to completion, taking classes full-time:
Taking classes full-time, you can complete this 64-credit degree in four semesters
Academic Options:
This degree will allow you to complete 64 credit hours of study at AWC and then transfer to the university.
Career Options:
Once certified the Elementary Education Degree will allow you to teach in kindergarten through eighth grade.
