Recreation Management AAS


What can you do with this degree?

This degree will give graduates the skills necessary for an entry level position in parks and recreation as well as community agencies and other recreation based organizations.

What will you learn in this program?

This program will give students basic knowledge in recreation planning and development. They will learn leisure delivery services in public, private, and commercial settings. They will also demonstrate general knowledge of outdoor skills.

What kinds of classes can you look forward to?


Outdoor Adventure Skills
Learn and practice basic camping, backpacking, hiking, wilderness first aid, and survivor skills with an emphasis on “leave no trace” environmental principles. In addition to classroom work, students will enjoy two overnight weekend trips. Basic level of fitness required.

Leisure and the Quality of Life
This class will give students the conceptual foundation for understanding the role of leisure in quality of life. Social, historical, psychological, cultural, economic, and political foundations of play, leisure, and recreation are explored. Nature of play and leisure behavior in human development within different cultures and the contribution play, recreation, and leisure make to the quality of life for individuals in today’s society.

Volunteerism: A Service Learning Experience

Learn the foundation and basic operations of volunteer organizations through service learning.

How long will it take to complete this certificate?
This degree is 64 credits and will take a minimum of two years.
