What can you do with this certificate?
The Family Development Credential is designed to provide paraprofessionals working with children and families in the community with the skills and competencies to empower family members toward self-reliance and interdependence.
What do you get upon completion?
Upon completion of the Family Development Credential (FDC) you will get a certificate from Arizona Western College. You may also apply for a nationally recognized certification, The Family Development Credential issued by Cornell University.
How long will it take you to complete this certificate?
This 11-credit certificate can be completed in two semesters.
What kinds of classes can you look forward to?
Family and Worker Development
You will learn basic self-empowerment and communication skills to support and health self-reliance within the family system.
Cultural Competency and Family Assessment
You will learn to understand various cultures and diversity, basic principles of strength-based assessment and how to build mutually respectful relationships with families.
Community Services
In this five credit class, you will learn the basic skills of the home visiting process and effective collaboration with families and other agencies while developing informal helping networks.
