Insofar as possible, college students are encouraged to assume the responsibility for self-government. The Associated Students' Governing Board (ASGB) provides students with an excellent opportunity to play a key role on campus during their first two years of college. The ASGB is established and recognized by the college for the purpose of promoting student activities and the general welfare of the student body. The authority of the ASGB is that delegated by the District Governing Board and the administration of the College.

The ASGB represents each regularly enrolled full-time student. Students registered part-time shall be associate members of the ASGB and are granted all privileges of full-time students except the right to hold executive offices. According to the ASGB constitution, "The executive officers of the Associated Students Governing Board are the president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and public relations officer selected annually. The ASGB appoints commissioners at their discretion with the approval of the advisor."

The Director of Student Life or his/ her appointee serves as faculty advisor to the ASGB. The ASGB holds open meetings on a weekly basis throughout the school year. For further information on ASGB programs and eligibility, please refer to the AWC Student Handbook, published by the Office of Student Life.
