Why do I have to sign in?
When students sign in, it allows us to see when students use the SSC and what subjects are most frequently tutored. We can then plan our staffing patterns and services to better meet the needs of our students.
What subjects can I get tutoring in?
Just ask a staff member to direct you to the tutor that can help you with your subject! The SSC can offer help in chemistry, biology, psychology, anthropology and many more subjects--not just math and English.
Why is there only walk-in tutoring in the Math Center? I want a personal appointment.
Due to the high demand of tutoring needed in Math and Science courses, there are not enough funds to provide free personal tutoring for every student that requests it. We encourage you to visit your professor during office hours and use all other available resources.
Why do I have to schedule an appointment in the Writing Center? I want walk-in tutoring.
Appointments are necessary for our tutors to effectively review student papers and offer feedback. Walk-in tutoring is only available when a tutor's scheduling permits.
How can I schedule or cancel an appointment?
Our Front Desk will be happy to help you schedule an appointment, or you can give us a call at 928-317-6029. You can also e-mail a request for an appointment on our Make an Appointment
page. If you need to cancel your appointment, please call the SSC at the above-referenced number as soon as possible so we can adjust our schedule accordingly.
How long are tutoring session appointments in the Writing Center?
Tutoring sessions in the Writing Center are 45 minutes long. Students can schedule one 45 minute session per day.
How long are tutoring session appointments in the Math Center?
Since tutoring in the Math Center is done on a walk-in basis, the sessions are "as needed." However, please keep in mind that the tutors have many students to help and cannot spend all their time with one student.
What do I need to bring to my tutoring sessions?
Bring any and all materials relevant to the assignment you are working on--books, notes, handouts, etc., and have any questions about the assignment ready for your tutor.
Can I come into the Math/Writing Center to do my homework even though I do not need tutoring? Can I work on homework that isn't math or writing?
Yes! Everyone is welcomed to use our facilities, as long as it is academic- related.
What is Online Tutoring? How can I get it?
Online tutoring allows you to connect with our tutors over a web chat for help, even if you're in San Luis, Quartzsite, Parker or anywhere off our Main Campus. You can schedule an appointment for on the Make an Appointment
page. Just make sure to click on the drop down menu and select "Online" before you submit the form. If you have questions about how online tutoring works, feel free to give us a call at 928-317-6029.
