PURPOSE

The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize and encourage scholarship among associate degree students. To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa provides opportunity for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate to exchange ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence.

Standards of Excellence

According to the PTK website, www.ptk.org, more than 75,000 students each year, with an average age of new members at 29, ranging from 18 to 80, accept membership in Phi Theta Kappa. To be eligible for membership a student must:

  • Complete a minimum of twelve hours of associate degree course work, with part-time or full time status.

  • Earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Students must maintain a high academic standing throughout their enrollment at Arizona Western College, and maintain a 3.50 GPA.  A GPA below 3.50 will place the student on a one-semester probation, with the opportunity to improve their academic standing.

  • Part-time and full-time students at Arizona Western College are eligible for membership through the Sigma Beta chapter.

Membership meetings:

Meetings are in LR 84 (conference room).  Date of first meeting to be announced soon.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact the PTK club president Anthony De La Herran at ad161@toro.azwestern.edu.
