Spring 2014 Professional Development day
The annual AWC/NAU-Yuma Professional Development Day (PDD) took place on Thursday, February 13. The daylong event started with a keynote address during breakfast, was followed by a session on teaching pedagogy, and then faculty went to their respective meeting places to conduct division business before lunch. After lunch technology and oral presentation sessions germane to teaching/learning pedagogy occupied the afternoon time slots. Click here to download the 2014 PDD program.
Some of the afternoon oral presentations were videorecorded. Click here to view what presentations were videorecorded. To watch the presentation click on the italicized presentation title.

This year's PDD keynote speaker was Steven Semken, Associate Professor of Geology and Geoscience Education at Arizona State University. An ethnogeologist Prof. Semken’s research focuses on ways that place, culture, and affect influence how people interpret their physical environment. This field of study spans science education, anthropology, geography, linguistics, and cognitive science. Prof. Semken's keynote address entitled Leveraging Sense of Place in Teaching Southwest Geoscience can be downloaded in pdf format by clicking here.
