2015 Professional Development Day (PDD)

The annual AWC/NAU-Yuma Professional Development Day was Thursday, February 12, 2015. The PDD is an enviable opportunity for faculty and education professionals to share their ideas, and teaching practices and strategies with a multidisciplinary audience. Click here to access the 2015 PDD website.

As a faculty of the AWC community these cloud-based online resources are available to you at no cost. How can you access this valuable resource? Simple. In addition, current hardcopy issues of The Chronicle of Higher Education (CHE) are available in the CTE. If you wish to receive via email the Chronicle's electronic edition entitled Academe Today, then please contact Biridiana Martinez, CTE Administrative Secretary, to request being added to the Academe Today email distribution list.

Furthermore, the Professional Development Committee (PDC) develops programs and activities for faculty, which lead to professional growth and career enhancement. It addresses such issues as renewal, incentives for research and new projects, orientation and mentoring, evaluation and professional growth programs. The PDC also serves in an advisory capacity to the Center for Teaching Effectiveness. Committee recommendations are submitted to the Dean of Instruction.

The Professional Development Committee is responsible for the planning of the annual Professional Development Day (PDD) held in February. The PDD is a daylong event devoted to the exchange of ideas related to teaching. The 2014 PDD included a morning keynote address from Steven Semken, Associate Professor of Geology and Geoscience Education at Arizona State University, followed by an AVID Writing to Learn workshop led by Debbie Shapiro from Augsburg College. A medley of technology and oral presentation sessions devoted to teaching/learning and the acquisition of technology and customer service skills filled the afternoon time slots.
