Furthermore, the Professional Development Committee (PDC) develops programs and activities for faculty, which lead to professional growth and career enhancement. It addresses such issues as renewal, incentives for research and new projects, orientation and mentoring, evaluation and professional growth programs. The PDC also serves in an advisory capacity to the Center for Teaching Effectiveness. Committee recommendations are submitted to the Dean of Instruction.
The Professional Development Committee is responsible for the planning of the annual Professional Development Day (PDD) held in February. The PDD is a daylong event devoted to the exchange of ideas related to teaching. This year's PDD includes a morning keynote address from Steven Semken, Associate Professor of Geology and Geoscience Education at Arizona State University, followed by an AVID Writing to Learn workshop led by Debbie Shapiro from Augsburg College. After lunch there is a plethora of technology and oral presentation sessions devoted to teaching/learning and the acquisition of technology and customer service skills.
