President Marc A. Nigliazzo

Arizona Western College President

Dr. Marc Nigliazzo assumes the helm at AWC

Marc A. Nigliazzo, Ph.D., arrived in Yuma on August 1, 2009 to assume his role as the 7th president of Arizona Western College.

He served as Vice President of Rio Rancho Operations and Branch Academic Affairs at The University of New Mexico in Albuquerque (2008 - June 2009). Dr. Nigliazzo has held various leadership positions, including President of Temple College (1995 - 2008) and President of Galveston College (1991 - 1995). Dr. Nigliazzo has also served in several faculty appointments at Adams State College of Colorado, Odessa College, Boise State University in Idaho, Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, and Corpus Christi State University (now Texas A&M - Corpus Christi).

Additionally, he has served as the Director of Freshman Composition at Odessa College; Director of the English Learning Center and then Chairman of the Department of EngAWC's 7th President Dr. Marc Nigliazzolish, Philosophy, and Reading at Del Mar College; and Vice President and Dean of Instruction at Galveston College.

Dr. Nigliazzo has received many honors and recognitions, including receiving the 2002 Western Region Chief Executive Officer Award, presented by the Association of Community College Trustees. He is also active in the community, currently serving as a member of the Rio Rancho Partners, and also serving on the boards of the Rio Rancho Economic Development Corporation and the Rio Rancho Regional Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Nigliazzo received a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Texas at Austin, a Master of Arts in English from Texas A&M University at College Station, and a Doctor of Philosophy in English from the University of New Mexico.

Complete a feasibility study for transition from Program to Evaluate and Advance Quality (PEAQ) to Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) accreditation through the North Central Association of Higher Learning Commission that aligns with the Arizona Western College planning process.

Implement the proposed Department of Education Title V Strengthening Hispanic Institutions Grant to improve English writing skills across the curriculum through supplemental instruction and development of a writing-skills lab.

Determine the feasibility of implementing the model of educating students in areas of solar power, wind power, geothermal power, biodiesel and/or other "green energy" sources and techniques.

Continue the second year of development and implementation of the five-year Talent Management Model which encompasses Recruiting, Orientation/Onboarding, Retention, Communication, Performance Appraisal, Recognition, Training, Professional Development, Leadership Development, Procedures and Workplace Climate.

Develop a district-wide waste reduction plan which reduces waste production at its source, improves document efficiency, incorporates recycling programs and implements best practices for reducing disposal and resource costs.

Participate in the Higher Learning Commission Assessment Academy in order to create a comprehensive district-wide assessment program that addresses efficiently and effectively Student Learning Outcomes.

Develop a model for listening, gathering and benchmarking systematic feedback from students via surveys, focus groups, and other options to strengthen teaching, learning, advising and support services.

Develop a comprehensive plan to improve the marketing and promotion of visual and performing arts into the college.

Arizona Western College, in partnership with Northern Arizona University-Yuma Branch Campus will develop a model that increases opportunities and pathways for the attainment of baccalaureate degrees.
