September 2013

New Positions
 

  • Data Survey Specialist Job created and submitted to Human Resources.
  • Currently hiring for Peer Mentors and Tutors. Information can be found on AWC Employee Listing page or Human Resources.

AVID
 

  • Held three sessions on 25th of September for faculty that had attended Proffesional Development Day in August.
  • Obtained feedback from faculty regarding their expericence implementing AVID strategies.
  • AHE Academic Advising training held on 24th of September. Attended by 33 AWC Academic Advisors and lead faculty and 5 NAU advisors.
  • Tutor and Peer Mentor training being held October 25.

Construction/Renovations
 

  • Working with facilities, architect and NAU-Yuma to discuss Veteran/Military Center to be added to 3C.

Technology
 

  • Discussions with Member of Colleague Steering Committee regarding the project implementation, planning, relative focus of efforts, project process, and discussion with Ellucian representatives regarding project.

  • PACTO staff meets weekly.
  • PACTO staff meets weekly with NAU-Yuma PACTO staff.

August 2013

New Positions
 

  • Data Survey Specialist Job created and submitted to Human Resources.

AVID
 

  • AHE Professional Development Day took place on August 1, 2013.
  • AHE Professional was attended by 50 faculty/staff from AWC and NAU-Yuma. Items covered were Academic Reading, Cornell Notes and Inquiry.
  • Dubia Zaragoza coordinated schedule to follow-up "Brown-Bag" discussion meetings with attendees of Professional Development Day.
  • AHE Academic Advising Training scheduled for 24th of September. 30 AWC advisors and 5 NAU-Yuma advisors expected to attend.
  • Tutor and Peer Mentor Training scheduled for the 25th of October at 8:30AM and 1PM, respectively.
  • AVID Spring Cohorts planning meetings and discussions in process. Items taken into account are, schedule, select other courses to be taken by cohort students, potential instructors and incorporating Tutor and Peer Mentors.

Construction/Renovations
 

  • Working with facilities, architect and NAU-Yuma to discuss Veteran/Military Center.

Technology
 

  • Discussions regarding Ellucian potentially managing or hosting services.
  • Discussions with NAU-Yuma regarding the creation of Virtual Advising system.
  • Discussion of implementation of AVID techniques and videos to be added on PACTO website.

  • PACTO staff meets weekly with NAU-Yuma PACTO staff.

July 2013

New Positions
 

  • Devin Kibler started with the PACTO program on 08 July 2013 and has been a great addition to the PACTO team. As Technology Initiative Coordinator, Mr. Kibler will focus on Initiative Two of the PACTO Grant: Increasing Success Through Improved Information and Technology. Welcome Devin!

AVID
 

  • AHE Campus Planning day was on July 31, 2013.
  • Professional Development Day scheduled for August 1, 50 faculty and staff scheduled to attend.
  • Dubia Zaragoza has been attending the orientation sessions for new AWC students to recruit participants for Spring 2014 AHE cohorts.

Construction/Renovations
 

  • Recent renovations have been completed.
  • Planning has begun for construction of Veteran's Center in Year Two of the grant.

Technology
 

  • Contract review and discussion with Ellucian in process.

June 2013

New Positions
 

  • Devin Kibler hired for Technology Initiative Coordinator position, will begin at the PACTO program on July 8, 2013.

AVID  

  • AVID Summer Institute took place June 26 - June 28 2013 in Dallas, Texas.
  • 10 staff and faculty from NAU-Y and AWC attended the three day AVID Summer Institute.
  • Currently planning the AHE Professional Development Day scheduled for August 1, 50 faculty and staff scheduled to attend.
  • Dubia Zaragoza has been attending the orientation sessions for new AWC students to recruit participants for Spring 2014 AHE cohorts.

  • Mat Hoogendoorn and Dubia Zaragoza have been coordinating with the AVID Site Team for the AHE Summer Institute in Dallas.
  • Finalized plans with AVID for two trainings in May. Socratic Tutorial Session & Instructor Support Seminar.

Construction/Renovations

  • Construction on NAU-Yuma Transfer Center completed on April 12th, 2013.

  • Rosa Villegas was hired for the Senior Secretary position and began working at the PACTO office on March 4, 2013.

  • Identified, met with, gained support and registered a team of 8 for the AVID site team.
  • Finalized plans with AVID for site visit scheduled April 29.
  • Met with local AVID district director to visit and observe two AVID classrooms at Woodard Junior High.

  • Worked with departments to determine participation, summer institute participation needs, AVID concerns and overall plan.

January 2013

New Positions
 

  • Interviewed for the Activity/Student Services Coordinator position January 24th @ 2:00 p.m., many qualified candidates applied.
  • The senior secretary and the technology initiative coordinator are still in the application stage, which means we are still awaiting the close date to begin interview process.
  • Working with NAU on their positions as well. They want to submit an amendment as the benefits were created incorrectly.

AVID

  • AVID contract is on the board agenda to be signed.

Construction/Renovations
 

  • The construction project is on target.
  • Awaiting final approvals for the drawings by NAU.
  • Project is slotted to begin February 11th, 2013.
  • Pilkington Construction has been chosen as the commercial contractor, for all three phases of the project.

Technology
 

  • Campus EAI has agreed that it can perform the duties the grant has requested.
  • We are now compiling a more specific list of tasks the program must be able to perform (data retrieval, etc.).

Miscellaneous
 

  • Working on the following items: web page monthly updates, creating an AVID training team.
  • Choosing external evaluator (received 7 applications, will officially review as a team January 31st) 

December 2012

New Positions 

  • The three positions: activity/student support coordinator, senior secretary, and data manager will be posted by early January as they all passed the board this month.

AVID

  • The AVID contract has been received (Dec. 6th) and is being viewed by upper management for signature or changes.

Construction/Renovations

  • The bid for construction contractor has been sent out and we are awaiting activity. The process requires us to submit for formal bidding.
  • Received 3 RFQ's and will review as a committee on December 10th.
  • Patterson/Thompson architects Pilkington Construction have been chosen as the architects (Nov. 21). Chris Thompson is the point person for the firm.
  • The plans have been drawn-up and submitted to both institutions for changes.
  • Due to the short month, January will be the month we finalize plans and pricing on the construction piece.

Technology

  • Awaiting arrangement of meeting with Datatel for campus visit and review.

November 2012

New Positions
 

  • Submit information to begin hiring process for the three positions in addition to the director for the first year of the grant.
  • The process is moving quickly. I would imagine that we would be bidding for the jobs in early January.

AVID

  • Working with AVID on creating our contract.
  • The contract must be created before AVID will create our personalized plan.

Construction/Renovations

  • Working with Walt Slaysman (construction lead) on getting RFQ completed and submitted for bids.
  • RFQ will be issued to community November 15th.
  • Patterson/Thompson architects pc have been chosen as the architects. Chris Thompson is the point person for the firm.

Technology

  • Working with Chad Coleman (Tech. lead) on contracting with Campus EAI and Ellucian for our technology and data project.

Miscellaneous

  • Making our first office products purchase (pens, paper, etc.).
  • Attended website training (Nov. 21) to fulfill monitoring requirement of grant.

October 2012

New Positions

  • The first stage of the grant is to hire the Director.
  • The director's name is Mat Hoogendoorn, hired on October 3rd, 2012.

Miscellaneous

  • Created working directory for employees and collaborative aids.
  • Set meeting with AVID director for state of Arizona and New Mexico.
  • Meet with VP- Dr. Eric Soulsby, begin mode of operation.
  • Meet with Technology Director.
  • Meet with campus construction lead.
